Well it has only taken me 7 months to settle in to a new pace of life in Melbourne, but I feel like I'm ready to take on the Roocke Cookie venture once again.
I have been researching local markets in Melbourne, and whilst there are masses to choose from, I am faced with the same battles I have encountered previously - public liability insurance, council approval/permits and costs.
The most promising looks to be the Docklands Sunday Market, so I am making initial enquiries this week with the City of Melbourne Council. In the meantime, my husband has suggested it may be an opportune time for his work colleagues to sample some of my products, so it looks as though the apron will come out once again tomorrow afternoon. The gorgeous girls at work organised a custom made "Roocke Cookies - Head Chef" apron upon my departure from the Hobart office. Love it!
Glad to have my enthusiasm back after all these months. Got ideas for Christmas packs etc but will just see how October/November pans out first.

Handmade Market

Day 1 of Handmade Market has been and gone, but if you missed out today, the Handmade Market is on again tomorrow from 10.00am - 3.00pm on the corner of Harrington and Brisbane Sts, Hobart.
The Afghan Cookies proved to be the favourites today, with only 6 packets available tomorrow.
However, there are still plenty of the other varieties.
The Family packs also proved to be the popular choice today - always good to buy in bulk for a little further saving.

Met some other lovely stall holders - Kate from Tree Fern who makes gorgeous jewellery, Leanne who makes the most amazing dolls and the girls from the Bomb Squad, who specialise in an array of bath bombs. I also caught up with Sonia from Sunday's Child who will be featuring her children's clothing and gifts at future Hobart markets.
Today was also a good chance to catch up with friends who popped by to say hello and to have little chats to people who have seen my Blog.
Hope to see you tomorrow. I am at the back of the hall, positioned perfectly opposite The Awesome Bean (coffee stall), so if you get the chance have a wander, a chat to stall holders, then a coffee at the tables set up on the stage (accompanied by a Roocke Cookie of course!!).
Roocke Cookies also have gift bags, so if you are purchasing for a friend/relative/work mates etc, you can pop your cookies into a gift bag for $1 and there you have an instant gift.

Enjoy the rest of your weekends.
Katrina.

2010 - Here comes Roocke Cookies
Hi everyone. Hope your 2010 has started well.
Just a little update from Roocke Cookies ....
I was successful in securing a spot at the upcoming Handmade Hobart market, so after a restful Christmas/New Year, it's back into this exciting venture.
Check out the Handmade blog where you will find the list of all stall holders who will be presenting their creations. http://handmadehobart.blogspot.com/

I will be selling 5 varieties of Roocke Cookies at this market - Anzacs, Choc Chip, Cornflake Choc Chip, Afghans and Jam Drops. Packets of 4 will be $3. There will be some larger sizes available too.
I will be offering gift bags for a further $1 with a choice of message label. So your Roocke Cookie purchase can be transformed into a quick gift in seconds.
Hope to see you there...
If you have any queries, I can be contacted at roockecookies@gmail.com
I am also on Facebook under Roocke Cookies - become a fan!

Update on upcoming Market
Everything is moving along nicely...
I submitted my application to Council last week for a temporary food licence, I have a week to go to submit my market application and I am almost there with my labels order.
Have got lots of ideas whirling around my head as to how I will set up my stall and display my cookies.
I visited Handmade Market at St Peter's Hall last weekend and was very impressed. The stallholders are all very talented and I left feeling very optimistic and inspired about joining them at the next market.
So with a bit of luck, 'Roocke Cookies' will hopefully be available for sale on the weekend of Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th January 2010, at Handmade Market, St Peter's Hall, corner of Harrington and Brisbane Sts.
I hope to confirm this in my next blog...

Keeping Busy!
It's 3.27am - what am I thinking??
Earlier today I had my wisdom teeth out so my sleep patterns are all over the place. Like a lot of nights when I can't sleep, the notion of Roocke Cookies comes to the fore of my mind and my ideas get running. So I've spent the last 6 hours writing in my Ideas Book, getting all my labelling sorted, conversing with the Council to make sure all of their requirements are being met, and doing a few costings.
I have no idea how many of my cookie packages will sell, so I'm doing lots of sums.
The market that I intend to start at, runs over a Saturday and Sunday, so I need to ensure I have enough packages to cover both days. There's never going to be "the right amount" - I'm either going to under or over cater! If I under cater, then there's going to be a mad rush of overnight baking on the Saturday night, but if I over cater I'm hoping it won't dampen my spirits too much. At least my workmates will be happy on the following Monday.
Everyone who has seen my blog or heard my ideas so far have been very positive, so hopefully I can guarantee a few customers!
The labelling aspect has taken a lot of my time - I've been researching what needs to be included, have gone through my recipes to identify proportions of ingredients and allergy warnings.
I have also arranged gift bag labels, so that if my customers wish to convert their packaged cookies to an instant gift, they will be popped into a gift bag with a label of their choice for a small extra charge.
The lady I have been dealing with to create & print my labels has been fantastic. She has responded to my emails really quickly, and understands my needs.
It's refreshing to get great customer service. I hope I can offer the same to all the Cookie Lovers out there.
Until next time (hopefully not when there's only 2 hours to go before I'm due to get up!!).
